Introduction

Welcome to our site. These pages have been produced by a group of motivated parents who feel that the New Zealand Government has not delivered on its pre-election promise to provide 20 free hours of early childhood education to all three and four year olds from 1 July 2007. We intend our site to give readers an accurate, up-to-date and informative picture of what is happening in respect of the 20 free hours scheme.
You will find some basic information about the policy and how it has been implemented so far. If you know the basics already, but want a more detailed analysis of what is happening, our comprehensive review of the research we have done, plus gives links to some helpful websites and other publications. Most importantly, please read on to find out more about our petition and how you can help make a difference to the education of kiwi pre-school children.

Thank you for all the wonderful information! It is great to have pro-active parents helping to make this work for everyone - the childcare centres, parents and the children! If the government fulfills its promise we will all win - the childcare centres will have the same funds as they currently receive (additional fundraising should become very easy), parents will have the option to return to work and our children will continue to get the excellent level of childcare they currently receive. 20 Free Hours. Please!

Good work, I'll do my best to get signatures on the petition too.
I'm one of the lucky ones in that our ECE centre is opting in, but I must say i'm very disappointed by the government in their handling of the 20 hours 'free' - its false advertising.
